Construction of a timer-reset to a diving-vent (English)
Abstract [en]

This report contains a description of a thesis work performed at the client Projektengagemang in Karlstad. Projektengagemang in Karlstad is a part of a large consulting group called Projektengagemang Sweden AB. Projektengagemang is a consultancy active in many industries, but the Karlstad region is mostly oriented towards industry/energy and product development.

The reason this work has been put out is because the reliability of the diving-vents reset function is not consistent during tests. Projektengagemang wants a revision of the design regarding the reset-function. The revision of the design should include a cad concept model, a brief description of how it works and a bill of materials needed. It was not part of the job to dimension these parts in detail, as it would not fit in the available timeframe.

To be able to come up with good solutions to the new design some product-development processes have been used. The different processes have been applied to analyze the existing design of the diving-vent and to generate innovative solutions based on the criteria’s it must meet.

Fluid mechanics, cad and pneumatic diagrams have been a great help to analyze and evaluate the current model.

The work has resulted in a new type of design solution with the necessary design documentation. The solution is based on different surface-areas which in turn provides different resultant forces with the same available pressure. By allowing the pressure to act on different areas depending on whether the valve has been affected or not, the requested hold-function of the valve could be implemented.
