Syfte: Studien innehåller en ekonometrisk undersökning för att undersöka om ekonomisk ojämlikhet har en påverkan på hälsan i Sveriges kommuner, och om sambandet kvarstår när det kontrolleras för andra variabler.

Frågeställning: Har invånare i svenska kommuner med ekonomisk jämlikhet bättre hälsa än invånare i svenska kommuner med en högre grad av ekonomisk ojämlikhet?

Metod: Studien har använt sig av en kvantitativ analys av aggregerad data. Datan sammanställts i SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) som sedan följts av en bivariat analys för att slutligen påvisa vilka statistiska slutsatser som kan säkerställas.

Slutsats: Ekonomisk ojämlikhet resulterar i bättre hälsa både för män och kvinnor i Sveriges kommuner. Sambandet kvarstår när variablerna arbetslöshet samt högre utbildningsnivå inkluderas. Det uppstår multikollinearitet när variabeln medelvärde för disponibel inkomst tilläggs. Däremot är förklaringsgraden väldigt låg för alla samband och kan förklaras av att det bland annat är svårt att hitta starka samband mellan dessa variabler i små lokalsamhällen. 

Purpose: The aim of this study to show if economic inequality has an impact on life expectancy in Sweden’s municipalities, and if the relationship remains when other variables are controlled for.

Research Question: Are Swedish municipalities with economic equality healthier than Swedish municipalities with a higher degree of economic inequality?

Method: This study has used a quantitative analysis of aggregated data. The data is compiled in SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) and is used in a bivariate analysis to finally show the statistical conclusions.

Conclusion: Economic inequality will result in better health for both men and women in Swedish municipalities. The relationship persists when the variables unemployment and higher education level are included. But when the variable average for disposable income is added, it causes a multicollinearity problem. However, the coefficient of determination is quite low for all the relationships and it can be explained by that it is difficult to find strong correlations between these variables in small communities.
