Denna uppsats är skriven som en kvalitativ litteraturstudie över hur videon mottogs i Sverige. Syftet har varit att presentera de olika positiva och negativa åsikter som fanns om detta nya medium och dess användningsområden. Endast svensk litteratur har använts. De positiva såg videotekniken som användbar i undervisning och som ett redskap för individer att uttrycka sig med. Pessimisterna menade att videon var en del av en icke önskvärd teknisk utveckling som skulle förslava människan. Videon var ett hot mot både det sociala och det kulturella livet. Uppsatsen inkluderar också en teknisk bakgrund som beskriver videons utveckling, en beskrivning över hur videon används idag och en slutdiskussion där författarens egna åsikter tas upp.

This paper is a qualitative literature study of the introduction of the videotechnique in Sweden. It shows the different views that the optimists and the pessimists held of this new medium and of how medium could be used. Only literature published in Sweden have been considered. The optimists saw the video technique as helpful in education and as a tool for individuals to use in order to express themselves. The pessimists argued that the video was part of an undesireable technical development that would enslave all people. It was a threat against both the social and the cultural life. The paper also includes a technical background of the development of the video, a description of how the video is used today and a discussion where room is given to express the author´s opinions.
