Detta är ett 15 poängs examensarbete inom Innovations- och designingenjörsprogrammet, 120 p, vid Karlstads universitet. Arbetet har utförts i samarbete med ett båtföretag som heter Strand-Craft. Strand-Craft är ett nystartat företag som har hittat en marknad för båtar som har en stil som påminner om 50- och 60-talets sportbåtar. I Strand-Crafts modellprogram ingår bl.a. en 20 fots båt kallad Bellezza. Denna båt skall förses med en utombordsmotor. Eftersom Strand-Craft vill profilera sig med en retrostil så har det varit svårt att hitta en motorleverantör som har en motor som skulle kunna passa ihop med Bellezzan. Tanken att utveckla en utbyteskåpa som skulle kunna ersätta originalkåpan, väcktes. Vår uppgift bestod i att ta fram ett koncept på hur denna utbyteskåpa skulle kunna se ut för att få motorn att harmonisera med båtens stil. Vi har under arbetet använt oss av utvalda metoder ur designprocessen samt haft kontinuerligt samarbete med Kurt Strand, Strand-Crafts ägare. Arbetet har resulterat i ett koncept som visualiserats med skisser, 3D-renderingar och en fullskalemodell.

This is an exams project of 22.5 ECTS that has been made as a part of the Innovation- and design engineers program at the University of Karlstad. This study has been made in collaboration with a company that is called Strand-Craft. Strand-Craft is a newly started company that has found a market for boats with a style that resembles the sportboats of the 50’s and 60’s. Strand-Craft’s modelfleet incorporate a 20’ boat called Bellezza. This boat is supposed to be equipped with an outboard engine. Because of Strand-Craft’s retro design it has been hard to find a modern motor that would match the Bellezza. The thought of developing a replacement cover that could be a substitute for the original cover, awoke. Our task was to develop a concept for this retro engine cover with the aim of making the motor harmonize with the boat’s style. During this project we have been using selected methods from the designprocess as well as continuous collaboration with Kurt Strand, owner of Strand-Craft. The project has resulted in a concept that has been visualized with sketches, 3D-renderings and a full scale model.
