The diploma work “Rocad 828” covers the design of a fishboat for Skölds Plast AB, in Kungshamn, Sweden. The Rocad boats are well-established within angling, but have just recently entered the market of the spare time-enthusiasts. The assignment was to draw up a new and bigger model for the Rocad fleet. On the whole, the project can be said to be consisting of four sub-projects: Engine space, deck, driver’s seat and the cabin. Put together these four areas are the essentials of the Rocad 828. A bigger boat requires a bigger engine and to that end the company wanted a stern capable of fitting an inboard motor as well as a couple of outboard motors. The request has been met with an engine space fit for a Volvo Penta Aquamatic D6. It is, still, suited for a montage of a pair of, or possible three, outboard motors on the customer’s demand. An important aspect for the angler is that is possible to move freely on deck, and by reforming the virtually unused space in the prow the 828 has been equipped with a spacious foredeck, suitable as a platform for cast fishing or if the customer prefers, as a luxurious tanningdeck. As a result of the foredeck, the cabin was made bigger and more spacious. This in it’s turn brought increased comfort and more storage space. Bigger bunks and a WC have been placed as we and the company considered it to be a necessity for a boat of this size. To add even more space to the cabin the pantry was relocated out into the driver’s seat. This meant that there is room for a closet or possibly a additional bunk. Throughout the project the ergonomics, comfort and aesthetics have been important aspects as they interacts to make the product saleable.
