En lokaliseringsanalys över vindkraftverk i Säffle kommun har gjorts med hjälp av ArcView 3.2 (se bifogad CD). Analysen är ett konkret exempel på hur man kan använda GIS, i översiktsplanering. Nästa steg i utvecklingen är att man lägger ut översiktsplanen på internet så att allmänheten har informationen lättillgänglig. Therése Jakobsson på länsstyrelsen i Värmland har i sitt examensarbete, gjort en så kallad ”check lista” för kommuner som ger indikationer om hur detta ska gå till med hjälp av gratis program som finns att tillgå ifrån internet (se bifogad CD).
