Woolf´s and the "Woman´s sentence" in A room of one´s own and the application of her theory in Three Guineas
2003 (English)Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year))Student thesis
Abstract [en]

In A Room of One´s Own and Three Guineas Woolf is concerned with the position of women and the constrictions that confine them. In A Room of One´s Own, Woolf expresses the necessity for women writers to create a form and content of their own and she emphasises the importance of the separate female sentence. Woolf believes that language choice is not transparent or neutral; matters of style are related to gender characteristics. In A Room of One´s Own, Woolf creates her own theoretical structure about how to succeed as a woman writer. In this essay, I will analyse Woolf´s theoretical structure of a separate female mode of writing in A Room of One´s Own and how this is applied in Three Guineas. By creating models for creative writing and using different textual strategies, Woolf succeeds with her fluid sentences to create a female way of writing.
