Abbot Francis Pfanner - Mariannhill
2004 (Swedish)Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year))Student thesis
Abstract [en]

This paper is written as biography about Father Franz, who was a missionary of the Catholic Church in South Africa. We follow Father Franz commitment to the cause of bringing faith and dignity to the local population. By putting education and work first to achieve his goals, he created a sustainable situation in a country that nearly was torn apart by internal conflicts about human rights. He succeeded with the impossible by keeping Mariannhill outside the present and the coming apartheid laws. He carried on with a constant struggle against the leading figures within the Church, who all the time tried to stop him. Despite this he managed to make Mariannhill a prosperous place, turning it into the strong and lively mission it still is today.
