Arbetet har utförts på uppdrag av BTG Pulp and Paper Sensors AB i Säffle. Uppgiften var att få en vidare förståelse för hur en flotationscell, placerad i en returmassalinje, fungerar och möjligheten att finna styrparametrar för densamma. Arbetet var inriktat mot avlägsnandet av klibbiga föroreningar, så kallade stickies. Processen studerades som reduktion av mängden stickies, ljushet och dynamisk ytspänning. Ljushet användes som kvalitetsparameter. Flotationen utfördes i labskala på massasuspension som tagits ut från processen precis innan flotationscellen. Studien visade att vid en tillsats av tvål så försämrades reduktionen av mängden stickies medan en högre fyllmedelshalt gav ett bättre resultat vad gäller avlägsnandet av stickies. Den utrustning som användes vid mätning av den dynamiska ytspänningen var ej optimerad för att användas på massasuspensioner vilket gjorde att inga slutsatser kunde göras med dessa mätningar som grund. Vid en genomgång av litteraturen kan ett samband mellan den dynamiska ytspänningen och reducerandet av mängden stickies påvisas. Detta samband bör undersökas mer grundligt.

Abstract [en]

The investigation has been made in cooperation with BTG Pulp and Paper Sensors AB in Säffle. The purpose with this investigation was to get a better understanding about a flotation cell placed in process for recycling paper and the possibility to find control parameters for that flotation cell. The investigation was concentrated to sticky particles which are also known as stickies. The flotation studies were conducted in laboratory with pulp, which was taken out just before the flotation step in a mill which recycles old newspaper. The process was studied as the reduction of the amount of stickies, dynamic surface tension and brightness. Brightness was used as a quality parameter. The study showed that the reduction of stickies got worse with an addition of soap. An increase in content of fillers improved the reduction of stickies. Maybe this can be explained by the fact that the fillers enclose the stickies and forms larger aggregates which are easier to remove. The data from the measurements of the dynamic surface tension were not reliable. Therefore no conclusion could be made by analyzing that set of data. But by studying the literature a connection between dynamic surface tension and the reduction of stickies could be found. This connection should be further investigated.
