Zambian Agricultural Small-scale Project (ZASP) is a Non-Governmental Organisation with a membership in Forum Syd, a subsidiary of Sida. The need of electricity and the existing problems with today’s energy resources have led to a discussion, within the ZASP-organisation, in Zambia as well as in Sweden, about trying to get electricity to Kakoma, the village where the ZASP project centre in Zambia is situated. The biggest problem with the project today is to solve how the organisation will be able to finance their part of the project. One of the rather new ways to finance projects is through sponsorship. Companies today have a larger responsibility to work and act as responsible social society members. To reach these demands, they have to support decisions that are nationally rooted activities, which can be associated to the companies in a positive way. The aim of our study is to sexamine if and how ZASP can finance an electricity project through economic help by sponsorship. We will also make research into which factors the sponsors use to make their decision for the project described above. We have interviewed three companies in the electricity line of business and the companies’ organisation trade. We have used four question areas, i.e. marketing, sponsorship, humanity sponsorship and the ZASP project. From the answers we got in the interviews, we have understood that it’s not easy to find companies that are willing to sponsor a project like ZASP’s. We also understood that the companies get further more inquiries from lots of organisations than they are willing and interested in sponsoring. To succeed in getting a sponsor to the electricity project we think that ZASP should focus on finding a sponsor in or close to Karlstad, where their administration is situated. Some of our respondents mean that the hardest part for ZASP is that the organisation is small and unknown. We consider finding a sponsor in the Karlstad region, which could give the organisation an easier way to find trust from sponsors. Like some of our respondents we also believe that it would be good for ZASP to find a protector for the company or the specific electricity project. A protector could with her/his reputation show that ZASP is a serious organisation. We also think it would be good for ZASP to study a similar project and look into the procedures how such a project was carried out.
