Abstract [en]

Using History is a historiography about our recent past. Its aim is to analyse which history books have been the most debated 1995-2001, to in the extension be able to exam, which uses of history have been most common, in the history books and in the reactions on them. The essay will also present which topics that have been discussed in the public debate and exam which trends one can notice at the turn of the millennium. The historiography is built upon Klas-Göran Karlsson´s and Ulf Zander´s categorisation in several uses of history. Signatory has constructed a new usage upon the pioneer’s theory construction. Using History can present the following result. The predominate use of history is the so-called morale use of history. It is used both by the authors and the reviewers in the history books and in the connected articles. The interest has foremost been directed towards the Swedish 20th century history. Primary on, what moral users of history would call the Swedish policy of neutrality hypocrisy, the domestic issues in the Swedish society but also a hunt for which were pronazis in the 1930:s and 1940:s. But not everyone was upon the moral trend in Swedish history writing. Some reviewers considered that you must relate to historic events from their perspective and not our own. Others meant that the beheading of the Swedish 20th history had went too far and that we forgotten that the period contended many positive changes. Some professional historians have begun to write history in more popular way, what Writing History would call an entertaining commercial use of history. The debates round history were numerous. I would like to mention the debate about lack of knowledge in history amongst teenagers. Many pointed out that the subject of history had too few hours in the Swedish school system. The blame was the school policy mainly kept by the social democratic party, who was the leading force in Swedish school policy for the last decades.
