This essay is a comparative study of girls education in a private school for girls and elementary schools in Karlstad between 1880 and 1921. I’ve used a theory about hegemony, that the bourgeoisie tried to keep their power and therefore made sure that the education was better in the private schoolfor girls from their own class.than in the elementary schools. First I examined if the bourgeoisie had any influence over the schools. I found out that they had established, controled, financed and teached at the schools. I also controled that the bourgeoisie went to the private school and that the working class went to the elementary school, which they did. The last ting I examined was the schools education and if there was any differences between the two. My result was that the bourgeoisie could have exercised hegemony and that the education was different at the schools. The daughters of the bourgeoisie got a good education, that would open a door towards a profession. The girls from the working class on the other hand did not get av very good education. It was more directed at houselife and the mothersrole.
