Auteuren David Lynch
2004 (Swedish)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
Abstract [en]

I have written an essay where I present the most central features of the Auteur-theory and the currents which established the foundation of the theory. I want to show how it has developed from being a political statement in film-science of its time, to the tool for filmanalysis it has become today. When this is done I put forward the most important critisism that has been raised against the Auteur-theory. Then I apply the theory to Davis Lynch, who I look upon as one of todays great moviemakers. I search for the marks of the director through a presentation of him and his works. Here i describe some typical stylistic and tematic elements in Lynch’s films. I have chosen three films which I submit to a thorough analysis. In the analtic part of my essay I intend to show how Auteur-theory helps me to bring forward the uniqueness and the special quality of the films of David Lynch.
