A facial expression is worth a thousand words : An observational study focusing on how semiotic resources are used when teaching beginners in electric bass (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to see how teachers design the teaching for beginner students in electric bass. The literature mentioned in the study background describes how educational situations are created and what can affect a teacher's design of a lesson. The previous research presented is about how an educator is formed, and the background to an educational identity. This study is based on a design theoretical perspective with video observations as a method. Three teachers were observed at a lesson in their regular teaching environment. The results are presented in four categories with a focus on the use of semiotic resources: physical resources, auditory resources, visual resources, and how the semiotic resources are used in a multimodal way. The discussion compares the results with previous research and literature from the background. Some conclusions are made, such as the importence of visual resources when teaching and the width of semiotic resources that the teachers used. Finally is the importance of the work described and how it can be used in further research.
