This study examines how gender is portrayed through image and text in the game League of Legends. This by specifically searching for portrayal of gender in both biological genders in image and text. 16 champions have been analysed, whereof six of them have been studied in more detail.The material used consists of 16 different champion splash arts and six champion background stories from League of Legends website. Gender theory is used throughout the study to better understand what the meaning of different signs are in relation to gender norms. Portraiture theory has also been used since the splash arts are personally viewed as portraits throughout the study, to analyse the splash arts semiotic picture analysis is used.
