Koldioxidutusläpp från Karlskoga Kraftvärmerk ur ett livscykelperspektiv : LCA-Analys 2016 (Svenska)
Abstract [en]

In 2016, Karlskoga Combined Heat and Power  (CHP) Plantreleased 46 374 tonnes of CO2 through its energy conversion from household waste, oil and peat to a total of 349 675 MWh of energy distributed by electricity, steam and district heating. (Lidell[1]). RT chips, chips, biomass and bio-oil were also used in the energy conversion process, but according to the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency (2017) these fuels do not give rise to CO2- emissions. Each year, CHP plants with an installed power of more than 20 MW must report their CO2- emissions to the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency's Single Act 2004: 656 (Swedish Environmental Protection Agency 2004). This report charts CO2-emissions from a life cycle perspective from the fuels used in CHP in 2016. By examining the carbon dioxide emissions from a lifecycle perspective according to the SS-ISO 14040 standard method, this report shows that Karlskoga CHP in 2016 generated 75,067 tonnes of CO2. 38% of total CO2 emissions occurred before the combustion process in the CHP, these emissions derive from production and transport of fuels. The fuels that caused the most CO2 emissions in 2016 were household waste and peat. The report discusses a scenario where plastics in household waste are sorted out and instead recycled. The result of the scenario shows that carbon dioxide emissions can be reduced as fossil parts of household waste like plastics are sorted out and recycled instead of combustion. Energy conversion without combustion and production of fossil fuels reduces CO2-emissions significantly from Karlskoga Kraftvärmverkverk. If all fossil fuels were removed and replaced by biofuels, CO2-emissions would decrease sharply, but significant emissions would still remain, as the report shows that production and transport account for a large proportion of total CO2 emissions. In a sensitivity analysis, the report also summarizes the importance of choosing the right emission factor during combustion. Depending on how CO2 emissions are calculated on combustion, it is a major part of the total CO2 emissions from Karlskoga CHP in 2016.
