Trästommar i flervåningshus
2005 (Swedish)Independent thesis Basic level (professional degree)Student thesis
Abstract [sv]

After the big cityfires during the eighteenth and nineteenth century, new construction regulations came in 1874. They forbid buildings higher than three floors with a carrying framework of wood. In 1994 the law disappeared since Boverket introduced new function based construction regulations that allowed buildings higher than three floors with a carrying framework of wood. The over 100 years long prohibition has led to that several generations of master builders, contractors, architects and engineers are not educated in this type of construction. Framework of wood in buildings higher than three floors is not an usual phenomenon in Sweden today. A series of pilot projects has successfully shown that you can choose wood as framework. But the projects lack continuity and there is no complete buildingsystem for woodconstructions like there is for its concurrents steel and concrete. The report light up objects like Orgelbänken block, Linköping, Wälludden block, Växjö and the guestresearchbuilding at KTH-Campus, Stockholm, which all demonstrates that it is possible to build buildings higher than three floors with a carrying framework of wood.
