Parts of the whole : A religious-didactic study on anthroposophy as a system of thought (engelsk)
Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is threefold. The first is to provide an enhanced understanding of the anthroposophic movement's basic components and how they are interconnected to each other. Waldorfeducation is further a related example of an anthroposophic activity that is being studied. The basic idea is to study the structure of which a system of thought consist of. The theoretical framework for the study is therefore conducted according to Ninian Smart's seven dimensions of religion. This is further conducted through a hermeneutic analysis of two books. Smarts theory puts an emphasis on understanding a system of thought, rather than come to terms what religion or a system of ideas is in general. The second part is to evaluate the application of this theoretical framework according to the results from the study. The third part consists by how the result might be advantageous for teachers developing their teaching and to bring an enhanced understanding of religion in general. The results of the study find that different areas have their own expressions, but a common ground is found in a holistic worldview. A key finding is how expressions are being understood differently dependent on perspective, that is what the anthroposophic movement incorporate and functions through. The dimensional model has proven to be a viable method for both mapping features in a system of thought, as well as being beneficial in a didactic context. It’s possible to apply the dimensional model on several areas in the Swedish curriculum, concerning religious courses in the upper secondary school. Its’ ultimate merit is how different religions, system of thought, ideologies can be illustrated and discussed by the student which may enhance their understanding of a complex phenomenon.
