This study covers the representation of Thor and the other Asgardian gods in the movies from Marvel and how it correlates to old literature such as Snorri Edda. The aim of the study is to get a picture of what Marvel changed and how much they kept from the original source material. To analyse this, I apply the method of movie analysis, comparative analysis and qualitative analysis combined with the theoretical perspective of Joseph Campbell, Lord Ragland and Carl Jung, as well as Christopher Vogler’s interpretation of Jung and Campbells work, through this analysis I discuss and evaluate whether Marvels movies could be counted as a modern representation of the old Nordic myths and determine whether they could be used in teaching as reliable sources of Norse Mythology. The result shows that Marvel indeed uses the work from Campbell and Jung in their storytelling and that there are both similarities and differences between how Marvel represents the Nordic gods and how the Nordic gods were originally represented in for example Snorri Edda.
