This study is an analysis of textbooks for the 4th – 6th grades and aims to investigate how other cultures/countries are described in history textbooks. I examined how ethnicity and social class are distributed and portrayed in the text books. I chose to study ethnicity and class from a intersectional point of view in order to uncover how their interaction influences on power structures in society. The examined textbooks have been published after Lgr11 and have been analyzed with regard to eurocentrism, dichotomous pairs and power structures along with intersectionality. The chosen methods to achieve my aim was a quantitative method which was the ground for a qualitative content analysis. I have chosen this last method to identify patterns in the source material so to achieve my aim. The analysis was divided in three main themes, one for each textbook, and in four subthemes to clarify my observations. The results av the analysis showed that the examined books very rarely talk about extra European cultures/countries and that high society is the most represented. The representation av European groups is varied but Denmark is undoubtedly the spotlight. The analysis also showed that some characteristics are likely to be associated to some social classes in combination to ethnicity. When other ethnicities or classes than the normative are represented this happens in relation to the majority group. That is why it is possible to argue that textbooks (re)produce power structures between and inside groups.

Detta arbete är en läromedelsstudie med inriktning mot årskurserna 4-6 och syftar till att undersöka hur andra kulturer/länder framställs i läromedel i historia. Jag undersökte hur etnicitet och klass fördelas och uttrycks i läroböckerna. Jag valde att undersöka etnicitet och klass ur ett intersektionellt perspektiv för att blottlägga hur deras interaktion påverkar maktstrukturer i samhället. Läromedlen som undersökts är utgivna efter Lgr11och har analyserats utifrån eurocentrism, dikotomiska par och makstrukturer samt intersektionalitet. Metoderna för att uppnå mitt syfte bestod av en kvantitativ innehållsanalys som utgjorde grunden för den kvalitativa innehållsanalysen. Den sistnämnda metoden har jag valt för att identifiera mönster i källmaterialet för att kunna uppnå mitt syfte. Analysen delades upp i tre teman, en för varje lärobok, samt i fyra underteman för att tydliggöra iakttagelserna. Resultaten av analysen visade att de analyserade böckerna mycket sällan lyfts utomeuropeiska kulturer/länder samt att högklassen är den mest representerade. Representationen av europeiska grupper är varierande men Danmark är tydligt i fokus. Analysen visade också att vissa egenskaper tillskrivs vissa samhällsklasser i kombination med etnicitet. De gånger när andra etniciteter eller klasser än de normerade är det ofta i förhållande till majoritetssamhället. Därför kan läromedlen tolkas (re)producera maktrelationer mellan och inom grupperna.
