Abstract [en]

Arguably, all companies has a need to transport products from one place to another. In order to reduce the cost of this, it is necessary to manage and optimize said transports. Today, there are a vast amount of articles describing how to optimize the transports, mainly quantitative, from an economic and an environmental standpoint. However, what is neglected is the way this is implemented into the business, how employees and customers react. Therefore, this thesis aims to describe the factors that are perceived as most important amongst various stakeholders in, and connected to, a company that has several transports on a daily basis.

To conduct the research, a case study was carried out at Skanska Rental, a machine rental company with many warehouses located in Sweden. Each of the warehouses make use of several transports to their customers each day. In order to best find the perceived success factors of transports, from different viewpoints, semi-structured interviews were held with stakeholders of varying positions, both at Skanska Rental as well as partner companies. To validate the findings from the interviews, observations of the interviewees and their colleagues were also performed.

The findings of this study presents how Skanska Rental should work in order to implement transport management as efficiently as possible into their business. Furthermore, the results were also analyzed and presented in a way that enables other organizations in the industry to make use of the research as well. As eight factors were identified through the study, this thesis extends current research regarding what factors that needs to be prioritized when implementing transport management into a business.
