Design av ett kommunikationssystem för fjärrstyrda undervattensoperationer : En mångsidig lösning för icke-kritisk kommunikation ombord på fjärrstyrda ubåtar (svensk)
Abstract [en]

An ROV is a remotely operated submarine capable of performing complex versatile operations down to 6000 meters below the surface. Today almost all software control systems are of a closed type developed individually by each manufacturer. This leaves the end users without the ability to make modifications and development themselves.

The systems are used mostly in the oil and gas industry from large vessels where the day rate can reach up to 1-million-pound sterling. Because of the high price it is essential that the systems are operational, a modification must be made in a way that does not affect the operational safety in a negative way.

The purpose of this thesis is to develop a system that facilitates the development of new solutions and enables continuous monitoring of vital signs components aboard the submarine. The subsea link system is a system that operates in parallel to the submarine systems and is a system where the opportunity of development and transparency are the focus. It is a system that is easy to develop and keep up to date as time goes and allows for a relatively low-price model by utilizing system spare parts as much as possible. The system makes a private channel by multiplexing communication between two devices on an already utilized fibre lead. This enables the development of new applications without putting the already established communication at risk. The end user can implement new programs without risking the actual submarine control systems.

Since new applications do not need to live up to the strict regulations regarding safety, such a system will lower the threshold for scientific organizations to implement their sensors and software to an otherwise closed system at a price that is not possible for the time being.
