Differences between Swedish and American accounting and auditing : A study of what the Swedish and American regulations name as general principles (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

An article in the magazine Balans state that the Swedish rules of accounting and auditing are different from the rules in the USA. We have, with this in our minds, chosen to study what the regulations in Sweden and USA state as general principles in accounting and auditing. We then compare these principles with each other to see what differences there is. We also try to see if the cause to this difference can be seen in the accounting theory. We have found out that the accounting principles in the regulations are quite different between Sweden and USA but the auditing principles are almost the same. The reason for the differences in the accounting principles is that the countries have different ways to look at the accounting which influences the formulation of the regulations. Sweden have principally continental accounting view as an origin to the principles and they are regulated by law (law is more important than truth). In the USA the standards are based on the Anglo-Saxon accounting view and the accountants self have made the preparing (fairness is more important than law).
