Computers nowadays have become a frequent element in Swedish schools. The purpose with my degree project is to form an opinion about pupils, and teachers, attitudes of computers in school education, in general and in mathematics. My research questions are about pupils and teachers attitudes of using computers in school and their points of view regarding computers in mathematics education, teachers opinions about advantages and disadvantages and if there is any difference between boys and girls attitudes, among the pupils. To get the answers of my research questions I studied literature and did some Gallup polls and interviews. Pupils in 4-6 grade and their teachers took part in my examination. My results and conclusions show that pupils consider the use of computers in school to be entertaining, interesting and varied. The teachers think that the computers form an excellent complement in teaching. Seeking information on the internet and good opportunities for individual school teaching, are other advantages. The disadvantages are that you can doubt the Internet information and there are few computers in school. The pupils believe in progress by using computers in mathematics. The girls are more optimistic than the boys. In mathematics the teachers use computers to make pupils more motivated and as a means to enhance knowledge. I have become more aware of computer based learning, which hopefully will make me better prepared as a teacher.
