This essay is about the work of the Swedish surrealist Max Walter Svanberg (1912-1994), and the connection that will be found between his art and Sigmund Freuds teories of sublimation. How the suppressed instincts of the human body will be shown in the surrealistic art. An interpretation has been made in eight different artworks of Svanberg, for the purpose of finding this connection. Another aim has been to se the difference between the term surrealism and his own developed imaginism.
